Built From Leather, Rodeo, And Family Roots

UC Leather Company was built from the kind of background you cannot fake. Long before UC Leather became a family-run leather goods brand, its story began on our family’s original homestead in Arvada, Colorado, where livestock and rodeo were part of everyday life. The ranch was known as Bar W Slash, and growing up around “the barn” meant being surrounded by horses, cattle, rodeo schools, hard work, and people who understood the value of doing things right.

Those early years shaped the values behind UC Leather today: loyalty, honesty, grit, and respect for quality craftsmanship. Leather was not just a material in our family. It was something used, repaired, shaped, and depended on.

My father was a leatherworker, and I grew up watching him work with his hands. He repaired every day leather tack, fixed worn gear, restored pieces that still had years of use left in them, and built custom, tooled saddles from scratch. Around the ranch and rodeo world, leather had to be more than good-looking. Saddles, bridles, reins, breast collars, tack, straps, and repairs all had to hold up to real use. Watching that kind of work taught me the difference between leather goods made to last and products made to be replaced.

That standard stayed with me.

From Rodeo Life To UC Leather

Fast forward to 2015. I had spent enough time around leather, rodeo, and Western culture to know that quality leather goods still mattered. I also knew there were plenty of products on the market that looked the part but did not live up to it. That was the year UC Leather was launched.

At first, the goal was simple: offer leather goods that felt authentic, looked better with age, and could become part of someone’s everyday life. Our early products started with leather wallets and practical carry pieces because those were items people used constantly. A wallet is handled every day. It goes in a pocket, sits on a truck console, gets carried to work, travels across state lines, and slowly takes on the marks of a person’s life. That is exactly what good leather should do.

During those early years, I also tried my hand at rodeoing. I learned pretty quickly that I was better at selling quality leather goods than staying on a horse. But the rodeo background never left the brand. UC Leather still carries that Western influence: practical, durable, straightforward, and rooted in a lifestyle where gear needs to work.

What We Make Today

Today, UC Leather Company has grown beyond those first leather wallets, but the original standard has not changed. We sell leather goods made for people who appreciate quality, function, and character. Our product line includes full-grain leather wallets, bifold wallets, front pocket wallets, money clip wallets, hair-on leather wallets, concealed carry purses, gun cases, range bags, travel gear, leather accessories, and other everyday carry pieces.

Each product is chosen with the same question in mind: would we be proud to use this ourselves?

We care about how leather feels in the hand, how it ages, how stitching holds, how hardware performs, and whether the product makes sense for real daily use. We are not interested in selling something just because it looks good in a photo. A leather product should be functional, dependable, and better after years of use than it was on day one.

As our founder, Clay West, puts it:

As UC Leather continued to grow, we also launched Lady Conceal, our sister brand focused specifically on women’s concealed carry products and handbags. While UC Leather primarily focuses on men’s wallets, everyday carry gear, and Western-inspired leather goods, Lady Conceal was created to offer women stylish, functional concealed carry purses and accessories built with the same commitment to quality, durability, and practical everyday use. Together, the two brands allow us to serve both men and women while staying true to the same family-run values and craftsmanship standards.

A Family Business In Georgetown, Texas

As UC Leather continued to grow, the business became more than a brand. It became a family operation. I was fortunate to meet Skylar, my partner in all things, and in 2020, we got married and relocated to Georgetown, Texas.

That move helped shape the next chapter of UC Leather Company. Georgetown became the home base for our business, our family, and the day-to-day work of getting products into customers’ hands. All orders ship from Georgetown, Texas, and behind every shipment is a real family working to keep the business moving.

We often describe UC Leather as a genuine mom-and-pop shop because that is exactly what it is. When customers reach out, they are not dealing with a faceless company. They are usually dealing directly with Skylar or me. Our home has become part house, part office, part warehouse, and part shipping station. Between the garage, boxes, packed storage units, and the daily rhythm of fulfilling orders, UC Leather has grown in a way that feels personal because it is personal.

It can be chaotic, but it is also something we are proud of. Every order matters. Every customer matters. Every review, message, return, exchange, and recommendation helps support a small family business that is still built on the same values that started it.

The 10-Year Journey: 2015–2025

The first ten years of UC Leather Company have been a journey of learning, growing, adapting, and staying committed to the original idea. From 2015 to 2025, the brand grew from a simple vision into a leather goods company serving customers across the country.

In those ten years, we launched new wallet styles, expanded into concealed carry bags, added gun cases and travel gear, introduced more designs, and continued refining the products we offer. We learned what customers value most: durable leather, practical design, honest service, and products that feel like they belong in their lives.

We have also learned that growth does not have to mean losing the personal side of the business. UC Leather is still family-run. It is still shaped by Western roots. It is still influenced by the leatherwork I watched as a kid. And it is still grounded in the belief that quality goods should be useful, dependable, and made to age with character.
